For this painting I worked on a round canvas for the first time.
The unfamiliar shape opened up a new perspective and made me approach the composition in a different way. I wanted the tulip to feel radiant and warm, with bright oranges glowing against the black ground. Small white pearls sit along the edges of the petals as a tacti le element, setting subtle accents and giving the surface a physical depth. The round format holds the flower like a frame and lets it stand fully on its own.
